Senior Systems Engineer, Bandcamp, March 2023–October 2023

Developed and maintained cloud-hosted production infrastructure for Bandcamp's active online marketplace. Wrote new and refactored existing configuration management profiles and tools to improve modularity, reproducibility, and developer experience. Rapidly developed an organization-wide reputation for relational database expertise and consulted with multiple engineering teams about schema design. Integrated OpenTelemetry instrumentation across Bandcamp's bespoke Ruby web application codebase. Migrated legacy Nagios alerts to metrics-driven alerting in Grafana. Assisted Bandcamp employees with system access issues. Responded to production incidents as part of an on-call rotation.

Senior Infrastructure Software Engineer, UW-IT, University of Washington, September 2019–March 2023

Developed and maintained software applications supporting UW-IT teams and campus users, touching domains including network inventory, DNS, IAM support, internal loans, and more. Acted as service manager for multiple internal services. Helped interview, hire, onboard, and coach new developers. Performed team lead responsibilities including setting priorities under tight resource constraints and managing expectations from partner teams. Collaborated and communicated with colleagues throughout UW-IT, including support specialists, engineers, project managers, supervisors, and executives. Advanced efforts to retire legacy systems, improve DevOps practices, reduce siloing, increase shared responsibility, and build trust within and between teams.

Scientific Programmer, Mullins Molecular Retrovirology Laboratory, University of Washington, December 2014–September 2019

Developed and maintained web-based laboratory data management systems using Perl and HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Designed and revised schemas in PostgreSQL for complex scientific data and prepared custom reports. Integrated with University IT infrastructure including networking, authentication, and data center facilities. Scoped, planned, and prioritized features with minimal supervision. Consulted and trained researchers on data tidying, visualization, and analysis with R. Supervised and mentored undergraduate web development intern. Software Development Engineer, Shared Shopping Experience, Amazon.com, February 2014–November 2014

Scoped, designed, and implemented customer-facing features for the Amazon.com consumer shopping website. Contributed code to all aspects of team’s product, including core Ruby on Rails web application, integration with Java-based features of Amazon’s common platform, administrative automation, and customer analytics. Supported team operations as part of an on-call rotation.

TechOps Support Engineer, Amazon.com, December 2012–January 2014

Coordinated internal response for high-impact technical events affecting Amazon’s customers. Developed and improved team-internal tools, including ticket handling automation. Investigated and reported on long-term trends in our ticket handling using our data warehouse and the R statistics package. Addressed low-severity trouble tickets for internal customers. Maintained team documentation.

Web Development Consultant, independent contractor, May 2011–December 2012

Designed and developed member database solution using Ruby on Rails for a private pool club. Worked closely with stakeholders on interaction design, developed structured data model based on legacy forms and spreadsheets, implemented functionality for club managers, members, and physical access control at club.

Technician, Student Diagnostic Center, Hampshire College, January 2010–May 2011

Diagnosed and repaired hardware and software problems in Mac and Windows computers belonging to Hampshire students. Tasks included virus detection and removal, data backup, data rescue, operating system reinstallation, customer service contacts with users. Worked with co-workers and professional IT staff to update web-based ticketing system and make process and workflow improvements.
